What is the ECA Factor?

What is the ECA Factor?

Thursday, January 01, 2009

Why do we need an energy cost adjustment (ECA)?
The ECA is a way to reflect changes in our cost for wholesale power without completely restructuring our existing rate schedules.

Do other utilities use an ECA?
Most utilities make adjustments for fluctuating costs of power as it is purchased.  Almost all investor owned utilities, municipal utilities and co-ops are experiencing rising costs associated with power production and market purchases.  Terms like power cost adjustment or fuel adjustment may be used, but they are the same as an ECA.

How is the ECA billed?
The ECA is applied to all kilowatt hours used and will be in effect for all rate schedules, Except our electric heat rate.

How long will the ECA be affecting our power bills?
We can't predict how long it will be in effect.  The ECA reflects changes in the power production, delivery costs and the market purchases of Corn Belt Power Cooperative, who is our power provider.

Can members reduce their electric bill?
Yes!  Conserve energy and make your homes and businesses more energy efficient.

How can members learn more about saving energy?
