Green pricing program

Green pricing program

Thursday, January 01, 2009

NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS

Calhoun Co. REC is pleased to offer green pricing program to our members. This program will allow individual customers to voluntarily contribute to the development of alternate energy production facilities in Iowa. Alternate energy production facilities may include wind energy, biomass, solar and other nontraditional generation technologies. All of the money collected from customers participating in the green pricing program will be used to assist in the purchase of alternate or “green” energy in Iowa.

Calhoun Co. REC purchases all of its wholesale power from Corn Belt Power Cooperative, which has committed to acquire energy from new and existing generation sources. One of the sources is the Hancock County Wind Energy Center, in Hancock County, Iowa, which began operation in December 2002. The voluntarily contributions will go toward the incremental cost (the difference in purchase price) of acquiring energy from the Hancock County Energy Center. If contributions exceed the incremental cost, Corn Belt Power, on behalf of Calhoun Co. REC and its members, will make additional investments in renewable energy in Iowa.

Through this program, customers will not be directly purchasing alternate energy; but rather they will be participating in the future development of these resources by ensuring purchases continue to be made by Corn Belt Power.

Some highlights of our program include:
