The week of September 17 - 23rd is National Farm Safety Week. CCECA is proud to support local education in our communities by participating in ISU Extension and Outreach's "Farm Safety Day." The day is geared towards teaching youth in 2nd and 3rd Grades about the importance of being safe around farms. CCECA's Manager of Member Services and IT, Richard Hall, demonstrated what can happen when electricity becomes the safety concern on the farm. His program was made possible by using the "Neon Leon" demonstration. Topics for the day were "A great big bird went sitting on a wire." "How did I get grounded?" and "Fried Like a Hotdog." Each demonstration was done to get kids thinking about why birds can sit on high wires and not be electrocuted or hurt, what it means to be grounded by electricity, and what can happen to us if we aren't careful around electricity.
